Research Analyst: Turkey, Cyprus and Greece - FOREIGN AND COMMONWEALTH OFFICE - London
The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) promotes the United Kingdom’s interests overseas, supporting our citizens and businesses around the globe. The FCO has a worldwide network of embassies and consulates, employing over 14,000 people in nearly 270 diplomatic offices. We work with international organisations to promote UK interests and global security, including the EU, NATO, the United Nations, the UN Security Council and the Commonwealth.
The role of Research Analyst
You will be the FCO’s institutional memory on Turkey, Cyprus and Greece: three countries of critical importance to the UK and Europe. You will provide timely, high-quality, well-argued and accurate specialist analysis, advice and comment on a broad spectrum of Turkey-, Cyprus- and Greece-related issues.
Your knowledge of Turkey, Cyprus and Greece will need to be in-depth and up-to-the-minute; you will work hard to make sure that you are up-to-speed with important policy developments within the three countries and the UK’s relations with them. This is vital in order to be in a position to identify future trends, as is the ability to build and maintain a wide network of productive relationships (within the FCO, Whitehall and the think tank and academic worlds).
What we are looking for
Sound in your judgement and strategic in your thinking, you must be able to understand and make connections across a wide timeframe and a spectrum of issues. We would like you, ideally, to have an academic or professional background in Turkish, Cypriot and Greek affairs, and/or practical experience of these countries. This will have given you the much-needed high-level experience. However, we will support you to help you gain the understanding you need, providing you can bring all of the other qualities, skills and attributes that the role demands.
We are looking for:
A degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant subject area
First-class research and analytical skills
The ability to build and constantly strengthen close, productive working relationships
A calm, focused approach – especially when under pressure and deadlines
A basic reading knowledge of Turkish and/or Greek would be an added advantage.
A rewarding, influential, ever-evolving role
You will play a vital role in the formulation of UK foreign policy. As well as being actively involved in the key decisions affecting our country and making a positive contribution to the UK, you will have many exciting opportunities to further develop broad and deep expertise in Turkey, Cyprus and Greece – through research, training courses and outside events. You will also enjoy a comprehensive benefits package.
Apply
Based in the UK, but there may be some opportunities for foreign travel.
You must be a British citizen, resident in the UK for at least two of the last ten years.
